World Rugby asks for TMO feedback

2:13 PM GMT

World Rugby is asking for feedback on the Television Match Official protocols via a survey.

The game’s organising body has brought together a Law Review Group to “conduct a health check of rugby’s laws” with the TMO one aspect of their review.

The number of referrals came under-fire during the Rugby World Cup with a total of 132 decisions sent to the TMO — 77 were for try referrals and 55 for suspected foul play. Argentina’s match against Namibia saw a total of seven calls referred.

As chance would have it, one of the most controversial calls made during the tournament did not fall within the remit of the TMO — Craig Joubert’s late call in Scotland’s loss to Australia, a decision later clarified as incorrect by World Rugby. The incident prompted John Taylor to call for a rethink over the TMO in a column for ESPN.
