BRISBANE, Australia — Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has sent a message to England ahead of Saturday’s first Test in Brisbane: bring on Bodyline.
Eddie Jones has spoken of how he wants his England side to play a brand of physical and aggressive rugby against Australia in their three-Test series; likening it to the approach the 1932-33 England cricket side adopted for their victorious Ashes campaign.
Cheika faced the press on Thursday soon after he named his side for Saturday’s game with three debutants in the starting 15 and said while he’s not sure exactly what Bodyline rugby is, if it’s a physical approach then his side will be ready.

“I don’t know if it means head high tackles or if it means aggression,” Cheika said of Bodyline. “If it means aggressive footy that’s good. That’s the game; it’s meant to be aggressive.
“It’s a contact sport and we love that. Respect to our opponents if they bring it on. We’re up for the contact part of the game, the aggression.
“I imagine that’s what it [Bodyline] means because you’re not going to come out and do head high tackles. I don’t think so at least!
“I think fair play to them [England], it’s good stuff.”
