Itoje’s undefeated run comes to an end

4:39 PM GMT

For the first time in 31 games, England and Saracens star Maro Itoje has lost a match he started.

Heading into Saracens’ visit to Harlequins, Itoje’s last defeat where he was named in the starting XV came back in May 2015 when his club side fell to the Exeter Chiefs at Allianz Park.

Since that 24-20 loss, he went on a remarkable run of 31 matches undefeated — where he started — for both club and country.

That total includes his six starts for England under Eddie Jones.

But Harlequins put an end to that run thanks to their 17-10 triumph at the Stoop on Saturday. Itoje started in the second-row but despite threatening a comeback in the second half having been 17-0 down at half-time, Saracens fell to their first defeat of the campaign.
