British & Irish Lions — Team of the Week

6:00 PM GMT

We are at the halfway mark in the Aviva Premiership and Guinness PRO12 seasons and based on the form of the players over the festive period, here’s our British & Irish Lions team of the week.

15. Simon Zebo — The Ireland back was in fantastic form once again for Munster as his try helped the PRO12 leaders defeat rivals Leinster at Thomond Park.

14. Christian Wade — The Wasps winger scored a breathtaking hat-trick against Bath leading to calls from Dai Young for him to be given international recognition.

13. Stuart McCloskey — The Ulster centre is on the Ireland radar and his performance in their win over Connacht will aid his claims.

12. Alex Dunbar — Dunbar scored a key try as Glasgow defeated rivals Edinburgh at Murrayfield.

11. Tom Varndell — Varndell’s hat-trick against Worcester was an education in lethal finishing.

10. Steve Shingler — Shingler was in inspired form for the Cardiff Blues as they saw off the Dragons on Boxing Day.

9. Conor Murray — The Ireland scrum-half was at his effective and industrious best as Munster beat Leinster.

1. Joe Marler — A solid performance from the Harlequins loose-head as he caused the Gloucester front-row all sorts of trouble.

2. Kristian Dacey — Cardiff Blues’ set piece was solid against the Dragons with Dacey accurate and effective.

3. Zander Fagerson — Glasgow’s front-row got the better of their Edinburgh counterparts with Fagerson key.

4. Jonny Gray — Gray is in remarkable form and his claims for a British & Irish Lions jersey will be hard for Warren Gatland to ignore.

5. Iain Henderson — The versatile forward is looking more and more likely to be featuring in New Zealand next June.

6. Sam Warburton — The Wales back-row was back to his best for the Blues against the Dragons.

7. Thomas Young — Wasps’ uncapped flanker could have been named Man of the Match for his role in their commanding win over Bath.

8. CJ Stander — The Munster back-row was at his brilliant best against Leinster and is showing form worthy of a prospective Lion.
