Toulouse scored three times to beat Clermont Auvergne 26-20 at Stade Municipal in the Top 14 on Saturday.
Yoann Huget, Arthur Bonneval and Gael Fickou crossed for the hosts while Sebastien Bezy, Florian Fritz and Jean-Marc Doussain kept the scoreboard ticking over from the tee.
Les Jaunards battled hard but despite leading through Peceli Yato’s try, trailed for the middle third of the match and only got within touching distance with a late penalty try.
On Sunday La Rochelle went second in the Top 14 after dispatching Grenoble 40-3. The hosts scored four tries with a penalty try kicking them off before Levani Botia, Gabriel Lacroix and Kevin Gourdon crossed while Zack Holmes finished with 17 points.
Elsewhere Pau stunned Montpellier to win 32-27 in a thriller at Stade du Hameau. They crossed four times through Watisoni Votu, Louis Dupichot (two) and James Coughlan and had the accurate boot of Tom Taylor to help bring up their total. Montpellier responded with efforts from Pierre Spies, Yvan Watremez and Duhan van der Merwe but they couldn’t pin back the hosts.
Stade Francais edged past Brive 12-10 thanks to four Morne Steyn penalties while Castres hammered Bayonne 47-18 with Pierre Berard (two), Jody Jenneker, Robert Ebersohn, Afusipa Taumoepeau, Steve Mafi and Rodrigo Capo Ortega all scoring.
On Friday, Lyon beat Bordeaux-Begles 19-16 with Frederic Michalak inspiring the hosts to a key win at Stade Matmut. Toby Arnold scored their sole try of the match with Yann Lesgourgues crossing for Bordeaux Begles.
